Park and Murphy's

Last night Robby and I went to a birthday celebration for a friend of ours. The celebration took place at one of our favorite spots on the island, Neptune Park. Family and friends who've been to SSI know that it is a wonderful green open space by the ocean inhabited by live oak trees that are over 100 years old. These beautiful old gnarly trees have massive branches that tower and stretch out across the picnic area providing a beautiful canopy that shade from the sun. A new grilling area was recently built in the picnic area so it is much more convenient to cook there. Anyway, it was really windy along the beach but it was GREAT because it kept it cool and we didn't have any pesky bugs. A lot of friends showed up, we cooked, ate, talked and laughed,and we had a really nice time. Later, Robby and I headed to Murphy's Tavern to meet up with some other friends. One of Robby's co-workers is leaving to go back to school, so we were there to have a beer and wish him well. Any one who has spent time on SSI knows Murphy's Tavern. It is a "locals bar" but of course the tourists end up finding it eventually. It has a big bar, pool tables, darts, and is always, always, always, smoky. When we left last night and got out into the fresh air, we both realized that we smelled awful. EWWW! I am the worst reformed smoker because I HATE cigarettes, so I was pretty grossed out. I hadn't been to Murphy's in awhile, and even though I smelled like an ashtray when I left, I was glad that we went.
